Our history
San Jose State University Judo was established in 1946 by Yoshihiro Uchida and was the first collegiate judo team in the United States.
Since its beginnings, the SJSU Judo program has developed individuals who excel as both elite athletes and valuable contributors to society. From Olympians such as Colton Brown, Mike Swain, and Kevin Asano, to entrepreneurs and professionals at distinguished companies such as Microsoft and Apple, the program takes pride in its positively long-lasting impact on and off the mat.
With the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games approaching in Los Angeles, SJSU Judo remains committed to upholding a legacy of academic and athletic excellence.
