October 21, 2007:
The SJSU Judo Team did well at the US Open Judo Championships held in Duluth, Georgia this past weekend. The team took home two medals-- a silver medal from coach Chuck Jefferson and a bronze from Marti Malloy. Andy Hung and Jon Leonhardt also did well at the tournament, placing 5th in the 81kg and 100+kg categories, respectively. For full tournament results, see the USA Judo website.

September 14, 2007:
A big congratulations to Marti Malloy, who placed 9th at the Judo World Championships held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Marti finished the day with an overall 3-2 record in her debut in one of the toughest Judo tournaments in the world. The tournament serves as an important stepping stone for Marti as she prepares for the Beijing Olympics in '08. See the USA Judo website for the full World Championship coverage.

September 1, 2007:
The San Jose State University Judo Team fought hard at the Fall Classic championship held in Coral Springs, FL this past weekend. A number of members from the team made it into the final rounds, and the team returned with three medals-- a gold, silver, and bronze, won by Kenny Hashimoto, Tomoyo Yoshinaga, and Janine Nakao, respectively. August 27, 2007:
The San Jose State University Judo Team dominated the competition at the Golden State Open held in Pomona, California. The team won a total of 11 level medals, including 6 golds, to win the team award. Notable were the wins by incoming freshmen Janine Nakao and Joseph Hashimoto, along with a second-place finish from James "Brewster" Thompson, a longtime SJSU alumni. August 11, 2007:
The SJSU Judo Team would like to congratulate coach Chuck Jefferson, who won a bronze medal at the highly competitive German Open held in Hamburg, Germany this past weekend. Wading through a 67-man bracket, Chuck defeated a former Olympic bronze medalist to secure his spot on the podium. For full tournament results, see the USA Judo website.

July 21, 2007:
Congratulations to Marti Malloy who took 5th place at the Pan Am Games, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Marti faced some stiff competition, but she managed to fight through to the bronze medal round, where she lost to her Argentinian opponent by waza-ari.

July 15, 2007:
SJSU team member Marti Malloy will be competing in the Pan Am Games this week, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is Marti's first time on the Pan Am team, and a major step for her as she prepares for the upcomming Olympics. June 26, 2007:
The San Jose State University Judo team announces the 2007 Summer Training Camp! The camp will be held on August 3-5th, and will feature former Olympian and World Champion Neil Adams, along with the San Jose State coaching staff. June 16, 2007:
Congratulations to Marti Malloy who took a gold medal at the FEDOJUDO International Cup held in Santo Domingo this past weekend. This was Marti's first international win since moving up to the 63kg division, and great preparation for her as she trains for the upcomming Pan American Games and World Championships. May 26, 2007:
Congratulations to teammember Takeshi Young who graduated from San Jose State University this semester with a bachelors degree in Philosophy and a minor in Computer Science!

April 21, 2007:
The San Jose State University Judo team put on a very strong showing at the Senior National tournament held in Miami, Florida. The team won a total on 7 medals, including a gold medal by Marti Malloy, who qualified to compete in the World Championships to be held in Brazil later this year. March 26, 2007:
The SJSU Judo team dominated the competition at the 46th annual National Collegiate Judo Tournament, held in Miami, Florida this past weekend. The team took 15 players to Miami, and returned with 11 medals, winning both the men and women's team awards, as well as winning a number of individual honors. Read more...

March 01, 2007:
San Jose State University played host to a team of Japanese national players this week. About 30 players from Japan came down for the three day event, and practiced with the SJSU Judo team. It was a great experience and opportunity for both teams to meet and train with players from another country. Some photos from the event can be found in an article written by the Spartan Daily.

February 26, 2007:
The San Jose State University Judo team held a Junior Training Camp this past week, which attracted the top high school players from the West Coast. Taught by Mike Swain and Isao Okano, the camp helped the attendees prepare for the upcomming High School Nationals, and gave them a taste of San Jose State's collegiate judo program. February 17, 2007:
San Jose State was named a National Training Center today by USA Judo, the governing body of Judo in the US. San Jose State was recognized for our top-level collegiate program and excellent coaching staff. The recognition as a National Training Center will help to bring funding and publicity to our program in the future. For the full press release, see the USA Judo website.

February 12, 2007:
Fifteen players from the San Jose State University Judo team competed at the San Jose Buddhist tournament and brought back twelve medals, including seven golds. SJSU dominated most of the men's and women's divisions, winning the overall tournament. See the USA Judo website for the full results.

November 21, 2006:
Three members of the SJSU Judo team were interviewed today by Rob Soul (from the KSJS radio station) for his weekly sports segment. A recording of the radio broadcast can be found here.

November 12, 2006:
Congratulations to the 8 SJSU Judo team members who fought at the Continental Crown tournament held in Seattle, WA this past weekend. The team managed to bring back 6 medals, including 3 gold medals from Tomoyo Yoshinaga, Atsushi Yoshinaga, and Michael Barnes.

October 22, 2006:
Congratulations to the members of the SJSU Judo team who competed in the US Open Judo Championships held in Miami this past weekend. Travis Stevens brought home a gold medal from the tournament by winning the highly contested 81kg divsion. Chuck Jefferson and Marti Malloy also made it to the championship rounds, and secured silver medals in the 73kg and 57kg divisions.

September 03, 2006:
The San Jose State University Judo team competed at the Fall Classic National tournamnet held in Harlingen, Texas this weekend. The competition was tough, but several team members managed to bring back medals, including sophomore Travis Stevens, who won gold, and Atsushi Yoshinaga, who took a silver. Read More...

August 28, 2006:
Congraulations to the SJSU judo team members who competed at the Golden State Open tournament held in L.A. this past weekend! Eight SJSU players competed in the tournament, and five medaled (including freshman Jeff Fong, who took a silver) winning San Jose State the best overall team award.

August 22, 2006:
The SJSU Judo Team would like to thank all the golfers, sponsors, and supporters who helped to make the 16th Annual Yosh Uchida Golf Classic the most successful one yet! We hope that everyone had a great time at the tournament, and continue to support our Judo program!

June 19, 2006:
The San Jose State Judo Team is pleased to announce that California Judo Inc. is offering $100 scholarships to be used towards the SJSU Summer Camp for California residents who place in the top three at the upcomming Junior Olympics. We would also like to announce that the camp age limit has been extended to include all judoka aged 10-19.

June 04, 2006:
Congratulations to San Jose State University sophomores Marti Malloy and Travis Stevens who fought in the 22nd Annual Tre Torri Tournament, an international B level tournament. Marti had a great day at the tournament, taking home a silver medal, and Travis placed 5th after losing a closely fought bronze medal match.

May 29, 2006:
The San Jose State Judo Team would like to congratulate Jon Leonhardt who took 5th place at the Pan American Championships held in Buenos Aires, Argentina this past weekend. Jon competed in the Open weight category, losing the bronze medal match due to a knee injury.

May 25, 2006:
The San Jose State University Judo Team had a great showing at the California Judo Inc. State Championships held in San Jose this past weekend. San Jose State teammates won 15 medals, taking second place overall in the Senior division.

May 18, 2006:
Congratulations to teammember Remi Fatoke who graduated from San Jose State University this semester with bachelors degrees in Speech Communications and Marketing!

May 15, 2006:
The SJSU Judo Team will be hosting a Junior Camp this summer, following the USA Judo Junior Olympics. The camp is aimed at up-and-coming competitors aged 13-19, and will run from July 9th to the 13th. The camp will include world-class instruction, conditioning, and full room and board. April 22, 2006:
The San Jose State University Judo Team put on a good showing at the USA Judo National Championships held in Houston, Texas this past weekend. Seven team members made it to the medal rounds, including all four members of the women's team. Sophomore Marti Malloy had an outstanding tournament, losing only in the Champioship round to rival Valerie Gotay by a shido. Veteran Jon Leonhardt also had a great day, and was selected to represent the U.S. at the upcomming Pan American Games in the Open division.

April 11, 2006:
The SJSU Judo Team was featured in this Tuesday's issue of the Spartan Daily, San Jose State University's school newspaper. March 26, 2006:
The San Jose State Judo Team dominated the competition at the 45th annual National Collegiate Judo Championships held in Tinley Park, IL, winning both the men and women's team titles. SJSU Judo Team members Marti Malloy & Travis Stevens were named the Most Outstanding and Most Inspirational competitors of the tournament, and sensei Yosh Uchida received the Coach of the Year award.

March 05, 2006:
Congratulations to Marti Malloy and Tomoyo Yoshinaga who competed in the Polish Open, an elite A Level Senior International Tournament. Marti, a 19 year old San Jose State sophomore, took 5th place in the 57kg weight-class, securing her spot as the number 2 ranked competitor in her division.

Congratulations to assistant Coach Keith Nakasone who was inducted into the San Jose State University Sports Hall of Fame! Sensei Nakasone was honored for his many Judo accolades, which include three Collegiate titles, a Gold Medal at the 1978 Pan American Games, and being named Team Captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Judo team. The SJSU Judo team would like to congratulate team captain Jose Bencosme and assistant coaches Itsuko Masuda and Eitan Gelber, who graduated from San Jose State University this week. Jose and Itsuko both received Bachelors degrees, while Eitan received a Master's degree in Kinesiology. Congratulations to you all!

May 17, 2005:
Mike Swain and the SJSU Judo Team are proud to announce the establishment of the Swain Scholarship at San Jose State University-- the only scholarship of its kind from a major State University. Mr. Uchida held an end of season barbecue at his house today. Entertainment was provided for by the freshmen and sophomores who performed skits, and the annual Judo awards were handed out by the coaching staff. Sensei Yosh Uchida was awarded the 2005 Dean's Community Award by the SJSU College of Applied Sciences and Arts at a reception held last evening. Team member Davor Vasiljevic was also recognized at the function with a Dean's Scholarship. Read More...

SJSU Judo announces a High School Training Session! Sessions runs from July 11-15 (week after USJF Jr. Nationals) and are FREE for all high school seniors. Application forms can be downloaded here.

San Jose State played host to the 2005 NCJA Collegiate Nationals, and dominated the competition with 13 medals, winning both the Men and Women's Team Awards. Congratulations Team for continuing the SJSU Judo "Winning Tradition."
