The SJSU Judo Annual Golf Tournament was a wonderful event that gathered sponsors, alumni, coaches, and student together for one day to recognize the enduring SJSU Judo program. Students worked at the holes all day long serving drinks, playing cards, delivering materials via golf carts, and connecting with the Alumni. We saw many familiar smiling faces, and an especially delighted Mr. Uchida, to whom we owe this entire Judo Team and its legacy. Men’s 1st place Net with a 53 were Eduardo Cerna, Gene Enfantino, Chuck Chavez and Vance Verderame. Men’s 1st place Gross: with a 62 were Bob Trevey, Rick Caballero, Keith Furuya, and Don Woo. The Ladies 1st place Net with a 64 were Miki Masuda, Diana Sakamoto, Phuong Pham, and Phillis Fujii. The 1st place Gross with a 77 were Karen machida, Asako Nakamura, Miyo Shigemoto, and Fujiko Masuda. Gary Martin was closest to the pin at 8’4″, and Longest drives went to Vance Verderame and Miki Masuda for Men’s and Ladie’s respectively.
A huge thank you to the Golf Tournament Chairperson this year, Chie Swain, as well as the Golf Tournament Committee Mike Swain, Sophia Swain, Keith and Kris Nakasone, and Ne’ula ‘A’arona.
Most of all, thank you to all the sponsors and donors who support this SJSU Judo Team, and give the students the opportunity to become great SJSU Judo Athletes, as well as great “successful individuals,” as Mr. Uchida said last night.
