As the New Year begins, SJSU students begin to ramp up their training once more. Fall concluded with several big tournaments, but January is the time to really prep for the Spring competition season. Since school doesn’t start until January 22nd here in the bay area, many of the student-athletes use this time to travel to find tough partners for training. Here’s a look at where the Spartans are training right now:
SJSU boys are on the mat at the National Training Center in Montreal, Canada. (Brent Yasukochi, Rom Hovhannisyan, Team Captain Colton Brown, Corwin Learned, and Jack Hatton)
Pictured here are Jack Hatton and Rom Hovhannisyan, who recently joined the team this past fall.
SJSU girls are pictured here with some other USA Judo athletes. These girls are training in Mittersill, Austria, where the first big training camp of the year is held. Also training in Mittersill is SJSU Judo athlete Harmik Aghakani, not pictured above. (Marti Malloy, Janine Nakao, Elaine Tandjung).
