This weekend, San Jose State Judo dominated the National Collegiate Championship hosted by Texas A&M. The Men’s team won the Team Championship with golds from Brent Yasukochi (60kg), William Inserra (73 kg), Matt Ogata (81 kg), Colton Brown (90 kg), L.A. Smith (100 kg), and Sid Raj (100+ kg). Great performances from team members Brenton Hsu (66 kg) and Lenny Guerrero-Baez (81 kg). The Women’s team placed 2nd with golds from Elaine Tandjung (52 kg), Alisha Galles (57 kg), Sophia Swain (70 kg), and Ronny Elor (78+ kg). A great performance also from team member Taylor Kaufman (63 kg). Also congratulations to William Inserra for receiving the Outstanding Male Athlete award.
All athletes who took first place in their division qualify for the 2015 World University Games Team. SJSU Judo looks forward to preparing for the international competition with coaches Yosh Uchida, Shintaro Nakano and Marti Malloy.
